Wulfenite xls; Tsumeb Mine, Namibia; Ilse Baer collection; 1 half size flat; unique piece
Wulfenite crystals, Tsumeb Mine, Namibia, Ilse Baer collection, 1 half size flat.
This selection features bright orange to yellow wulfenite crystals from the world-famous Tsumeb Mine in Namibia. The well-formed tabular crystals with a glassy luster sit on contrasting matrix and reflect the characteristic aesthetics of this locality. Some specimens display translucent crystal areas or subtle color zoning. This half-size flat comes from the Ilse Baer collection and impressively documents the quality of classic wulfenite specimens from Tsumeb.
Geology & Origin
The Tsumeb Mine in northern Namibia is one of the world’s most significant polymetallic deposits and is renowned for its exceptional mineral diversity and specimen quality. The mineralization occurred within a carbonate host rock that was altered through multiple hydrothermal phases. Wulfenite (PbMoO₄) is a secondary molybdate mineral that forms in the oxidation zones of lead-bearing ores. Crystals from Tsumeb are especially prized for their vivid color, clarity, and crystal form, making them true classics among secondary minerals.
