This unique flat contains a varied selection of UV-active mineral specimens from Långban in Värmland, Sweden, including Svabite and other minerals. The specimens show different grey, dark grey, greenish, brownish and pinkish rock areas with pale and contrasting mineralization. Under UV light, several pieces display clearly visible fluorescence, particularly in orange to reddish-orange colours. The size, composition and intensity of the fluorescence vary from specimen to specimen. The complete flat shown in the pictures is offered as a unique lot.
Geology & Origin
Långban in Värmland, Sweden, is one of the mineralogically important localities known for its exceptionally diverse range of sometimes rare mineral species. The complex manganese- and iron-rich deposit was affected by metamorphic and metasomatic processes, producing numerous unusual mineral associations. Svabite is one of the known minerals from the locality, and various minerals from Långban may show fluorescence under UV light.
