Trinitite from the Trinity Site, Alamogordo, New Mexico, USA – micromount, approx. 5-10 mm big, 1 Piece.
This micromount contains an original Trinitite fragment from the Trinity Site near Alamogordo, New Mexico. The material displays the characteristic glassy, predominantly pale to olive-green appearance and was formed when desert sand melted during the Trinity Test on July 16, 1945. The pieces offered are approximately about 5-10 mm in size. The material comes from an authenticated stock, and the authenticity of the Trinitite specimens was verified using nuclear spectroscopy.
Geology & Origin
Trinitite is not a naturally formed mineral but a glass created by extreme heat. During the Trinity Test, the first detonation of an atomic bomb, sand and near-surface material at the test site were melted within a very short period and then rapidly cooled. This process produced the glass-like material now known as Trinitite, which is of particular interest from both a mineralogical and historical perspective.
