Cherry Thulite (partly UV-active) from Namibia – 10 kg
This 10 kg lot contains rough pieces of Thulite in a light-colored matrix from Namibia. The material shows typical pink to cherry-red areas distributed irregularly throughout the rock, creating a vivid and strongly contrasting overall appearance. In places, the color appears cloudy to patchy within the host material and stands out clearly against the whitish to greenish gray matrix. The material occurs in massive form; no well-developed crystals are recognizable on the pieces. One example with a cut surface shows the internal structure especially well. Under UV light, parts of the material show a visible reaction, which adds further appeal for collectors of fluorescent minerals.
Geology & Origin
Thulite is a manganese-rich variety of Zoisite and belongs to the silicate mineral group. Its characteristic pink to red color is caused by its manganese content. The mineral forms under metamorphic conditions and usually occurs in massive to compact habit, commonly associated with a light-colored matrix. Material from Namibia is appreciated for its strong coloration and the attractive contrast between pink Thulite and the surrounding rock.
