This selection from our 2022 mineral collecting trip to Malawi features a striking assortment of smoky quartz crystals. The specimens range from light gray to deep brown, with partially transparent faces and well-formed terminations. Some show glassy luster, while others reveal natural etching or contact textures that enhance the individuality of each crystal.
Mount Malosa is one of the most important localities for alkaline rock minerals in Africa. The crystals presented here originate from our own fieldwork and offer a characteristic glimpse into the mineral formations of Malawi’s pegmatites and syenites.
