Geology & Origin
Mina Ojuela near Mapimí in the Mexican state of Durango is a classic locality for secondary minerals formed in the oxidation zone of polymetallic ore deposits. Rosasite is a hydrated copper-zinc carbonate that forms through the weathering and alteration of primary copper and zinc ores. The complex geochemical conditions of the deposit produced a wide range of secondary minerals, which frequently occur together on strongly oxidised ore and rock matrices.
