This unique flat contains a varied selection of Rosasite and other minerals from the Ojuela Mine near Mapimí in Mexico. The specimens are characterized by turquoise to blue-green Rosasite areas that occur as broad coatings, crusty sections or more compact aggregates on brown, reddish, grey to pale matrix. The individual pieces vary considerably in size, shape and distribution of mineralization, showing different appearances of material from this classic locality. The complete flat shown in the pictures is offered as a unique lot.

Geology & Origin

The Ojuela Mine near Mapimí in the Mexican state of Durango is an internationally known locality for secondary minerals. The deposit originally formed as a polymetallic ore mineralization, while later oxidation and weathering processes produced an exceptionally diverse secondary mineral assemblage. Rosasite typically forms in the oxidized zones of copper- and zinc-bearing ores and commonly occurs together with other carbonates, arsenates and secondary minerals. Because of this remarkable mineral diversity, the Ojuela Mine has long been an important locality for systematic mineral collections.
