Quadratite and Marrite crystals from the Lengenbach Quarry, Binntal, Valais, Switzerland – miniature specimen as unique piece
This Quadratit and Marrite specimen from the Lengenbach Quarry in the Binntal displays a striking association on a light, fine-grained matrix. The dark, metallic-looking crystal areas contrast clearly with the host rock, allowing the mineral phases to be visually distinguished. Although small, the crystals are well defined and characteristic of this unique locality. As a miniature specimen, it is particularly suitable for specialized Lengenbach collections and represents a rare combination of thallium-bearing sulfosalts.
Geology & Origin
The Lengenbach Quarry in the Binntal, Valais, Switzerland, is one of the world’s most important localities for rare sulfosalt minerals, especially thallium-bearing species such as Quadratit and Marrit. The mineralization is hosted in dolomitic rocks and formed under complex hydrothermal conditions. Many minerals from this site are extremely rare or were first described from Lengenbach, making specimens from this locality highly sought after as reference material.
