Pyrite crystals from Java (Central Java), Indonesia – small cabinet specimen as unique piece
This small cabinet specimen displays numerous Pyrite crystals from Central Java, Indonesia, occurring as densely packed, predominantly blocky to cubic crystals on a dark, massive matrix. The crystals show well-defined edges and locally stepped faces with a matte to slightly metallic luster in golden-yellow to olive-golden tones. With a weight of 927 g, the specimen has a compact and substantial presence, while the extensive crystal coverage gives it a strong, cohesive appearance with clearly recognizable crystal development.
Geology & Origin
Pyrite mineralization in Central Java results from hydrothermal processes within volcanically influenced host rocks. Iron- and sulfur-rich fluids crystallized along fractures and within cavities, forming characteristic Pyrite crystals that commonly develop blocky or cubic habits. The region is well known for its diverse sulfide occurrences and continues to produce collectible Pyrite specimens in a wide range of crystal developments.
