Geology & Origin
The Linka Mine in the Spencer Hot Springs Mining District, Lander County, Nevada, is the type locality of the rare mineral Pottsite. Pottsite is a hydrous lead-bismuth vanadate that formed in the oxidation zone of the tungsten-bearing deposit. It is characteristically associated with Clinobisvanite, a bismuth vanadate, as well as other secondary minerals. The yellow areas are typical of Pottsite, while Clinobisvanite generally occurs in more subdued brownish to reddish tones. The combination of these uncommon vanadate minerals and the varied appearance of the specimens makes material from this locality especially interesting for systematic mineral collections.
