This unique flat contains several specimens with Phurcalite from the Posey Mine in Utah, USA. The pieces show mainly pale to grey, partly beige to brownish matrix with yellow to yellow-green mineral coatings and crusts. Under UV light, several areas display clearly visible green fluorescence. The shape, size and intensity of the UV reaction vary from piece to piece. The complete flat shown in the pictures is offered as a unique lot.
Geology & Origin
Phurcalite is a rare secondary uranyl phosphate that forms in the oxidation zone of uranium-rich deposits. The Posey Mine in Utah, USA, is a known locality for fluorescent secondary uranium minerals. There, the alteration of primary uranium minerals under oxidizing conditions produces various coatings, crusts and surface mineralizations. The specimens shown here illustrate the typical occurrence of this mineral and its distinct UV activity.
