Orthoserpierite, etc.; Kyffhäuser, Thuringia, Germany – 1 unique flat
This collection includes several specimens with fine-grained to massive Orthoserpierite and other, partially unidentified secondary minerals from the Kyffhäuser Mountains in Thuringia. The pieces display greenish to blue-green zones and coatings, indicative of the formation of copper-bearing supergene minerals. Some specimens show matte to glassy surfaces on dark matrix, while others feature bluish veins, colorful crusts, or irregular mineral deposits.
The Kyffhäuser region in Thuringia is a classic locality for secondary copper minerals in Germany. Within small hydrothermally influenced zones of the local host rock, rare minerals such as Orthoserpierite formed under oxidizing conditions. This complex copper-zinc sulfate is known for its characteristic blue-green color. The specimens presented here reflect the diversity and uniqueness of this lesser-known but mineralogically significant occurrence.
