Opal from Tanzania – 1 unique lot with 23 pieces
This unique lot contains 23 rough Opal specimens from Tanzania in a variety of sizes and shapes. The material displays predominantly creamy white to honey-yellow colours with locally translucent areas and a waxy to vitreous lustre. Naturally broken surfaces and varied textures give each specimen its individual appearance, making the lot suitable for both collectors and lapidary use.
Geology & Origin
The Opal deposits of Tanzania formed when silica-rich solutions filled cavities and fractures within volcanic rocks or sediments. Over time, amorphous silica was deposited, producing material with varying colours and degrees of transparency depending on the conditions of formation. Tanzania is one of Africa's notable sources of diverse Opal varieties.
