Geology & Origin
Nifontovite is a rare calcium borate mineral that forms in boron-rich hydrothermal deposits. Mina Rey in the Charcas mining district of San Luis Potosí, Mexico, is among the world's most important localities for this rare species and has produced some of the finest collector specimens known. Because of its rarity and often excellent crystal development, Nifontovite is highly sought after by collectors of rare borate minerals.
