UV-Minerals from Franklin Furnace, New Jersey, USA – 1 kg
This lot contains 1 kg of UV-active minerals from the world-famous Franklin Furnace deposits in New Jersey, USA. While many pieces appear rather unremarkable in daylight, they display strong fluorescence under ultraviolet light – a hallmark of minerals from the Franklin district. Under shortwave UV (SWUV) in particular, the specimens show vivid colours that have made this locality famous worldwide. The material includes typical members of the Franklin mineral assemblage and is ideal for UV demonstrations, educational purposes, or as an addition to any fluorescence collection.
Geology & origin
Franklin Furnace is one of the most significant localities for fluorescent minerals in the world. Its remarkable mineral diversity formed through complex geological processes, during which zinc-rich deposits were transformed by metamorphism and later geologic events into one of the most mineralogically varied regions known. The characteristic fluorescence of many Franklin minerals gives this material both scientific and collector value.
