Osarizawaite and Philipsbornite crystals from the Grandview Mine, Grand Canyon, AZ, USA – 1 unique flat
This flat contains a diverse selection of specimens with Osarizawaite and Philipsbornite from the classic Grandview Mine. The pieces predominantly show yellow green to olive and brownish coatings and crusts, locally accompanied by contrasting blue green areas. Crystals occur mainly as fine crystalline aggregates and dense granular coatings; well developed free standing individual crystals are only occasionally recognizable. The appeal of this flat lies in the wide variation of mineral associations, surface textures and color intensity that is characteristic of material from this locality.
Geology & Origin
The Grandview Mine in the Grand Canyon is one of the most important localities for secondary copper and lead minerals in North America. Osarizawaite and Philipsbornite formed here within the oxidation zone of copper rich ore bodies through the alteration of primary sulfides under oxidizing, arid conditions. This flat illustrates these processes through numerous differently developed specimens and provides an instructive overview of the mineralogical diversity of this historic deposit.
The flat shown in the pictures will be shipped with the corresponding box and, if applicable, folding boxes. These may be partially used, show signs of wear, and have multiple labels or markings.
