Fossilized (petrified) wood; Garut, Java, Indonesia; 38.6 kg; unique piece
Fossilized (petrified) wood from Garut, Java, Indonesia – 38.6 kg unique piece
This exceptionally massive single specimen features fossilized wood from Garut, Java, Indonesia, distinguished by its impressive surface area and striking coloration. The former tree trunk is fully mineralized and displays a highly expressive, almost landscape-like pattern on the polished cut surface. Broad zones of warm yellow, ochre, and brown tones alternate with translucent, quartz-rich areas, creating a vivid sense of depth. The original wood structure remains clearly recognizable, both within the interior zones and along the naturally preserved outer surfaces. With its substantial weight, compact form, and remarkable surface character, this piece is ideally suited as a central display specimen for advanced collections or as a powerful statement object in architectural or interior settings.
Geology & Origin
Fossilized wood forms when organic plant material is permeated and preserved by mineral-rich solutions over very long geological timescales. During this process, the original wood substance is gradually replaced by quartz and related silicates, while the internal structure of the wood remains intact. The Garut region on Java is well known for producing large-format, vividly colored fossilized wood characterized by stable preservation, clear structures, and expressive natural color zoning.
