Amber with Wood Structure from Sumatra, Indonesia – Large Cabinet Specimen, 982 g, Unique Piece

This 982 g natural amber specimen displays clearly visible and in places particularly pronounced wood structures. The piece features a varied surface with brown to dark brown, partially translucent amber areas surrounded and intersected by lighter ochre to beige-brown sections. Particularly striking are the numerous rounded and curved structures visible throughout parts of the material. Natural fracture surfaces, cavities, and the irregular outer shape emphasize the original character of the specimen.

Geology & Origin

Amber is fossilized tree resin that was preserved and transformed over geological periods under sediment cover and limited exposure to air. In this material from Sumatra, amber occurs together with recognizable structures of the original plant material, providing a particularly clear impression of its origin from tree resin. The amber deposits of Sumatra are associated with Tertiary sedimentary formations and commonly produce brown to honey-colored material with distinctive natural structures.
