Calcareous sinter from Büschensberg near Elbingerode in the eastern Harz Mountains, Thuringia, Germany – 1 unique half size flat
This collection contains two visually striking specimens of calcareous sinter from the Büschensberg locality near Elbingerode in the eastern Harz Mountains. The pieces exhibit classic sinter textures in different forms: one specimen shows rounded, polished surfaces with nodular sinter patterns, while the second features dark reddish-brown stalactitic formations, some of which are hollow. Together, these specimens offer a diverse look into the formation processes of sinter deposits in karstic environments.
The Büschensberg area near Elbingerode is known for its well-developed limestone and dolomite layers, where groundwater movement and carbonate precipitation have led to impressive sinter formations. These pieces are likely the result of secondary deposition from mineral-rich waters in fissures or cavities, with the red-brown coloration originating from iron oxide admixtures. This flat represents an excellent example of sinter growth under varying environmental conditions in the eastern Harz region.
This product is ideal as a collector's item, decorative element, teaching material, or for scientific and exhibition purposes.
