Azurite xls, Malachite; Morocco; 2.48 kg; unique piece
Azurite crystals with Malachite from Morocco. 2.48 kg cabinet specimen as unique piece
This 2.48 kg mineral specimen shows intensely blue Azurite crystals together with green Malachite on the matrix. The strong color contrast between the deep blue Azurite and the vivid green Malachite gives the piece a particularly attractive appearance. The Azurite crystals display a clearly recognizable crystalline structure with a glassy luster, while the Malachite occurs in typical fibrous to velvety aggregates partly covering the surface. The natural structure of the matrix and the clear presence of both copper minerals make this specimen a decorative and collectible unique piece.
Geology & origin
Azurite and Malachite form as secondary copper minerals in the oxidation zone of copper deposits. During weathering processes, copper bearing solutions create the characteristic blue and green mineral formations that often occur together. Morocco is one of the classic localities for such copper minerals and has produced attractive collector specimens with well developed Azurite crystals and Malachite for many years.
