Aeschynite – (Y) from Fredriksberg, Sweden – small cabinet specimen as unique piece
This specimen shows a brownish to reddish matrix with dark inclusions of Aeschynite-(Y). The crystals are not well defined but appear as granular to irregular aggregates within the host rock. The surface has a matte to slightly lustrous character, emphasizing the typical appearance of this rare niobium-titanium mineral.
The piece comes from Fredriksberg in Sweden, a well-known locality for rare-earth minerals. Aeschynite-(Y) belongs to the group of complex oxides containing niobium, titanium, and yttrium. It crystallizes in the orthorhombic system and usually occurs in massive or granular habits. Due to its rarity and its content of rare earth elements, it is of particular interest for specialized mineral collections.
