Aeschynite – (Ce) from Miass, Ural, Russia – Micromount as unique piece
This specimen shows a compact aggregate of Aeschynite-(Ce) with a dark brownish-black coloration. The surface is matte to slightly lustrous, highlighting the typical character of this rare niobium-titanium mineral. Due to its small size, the specimen is ideal as a micromount for specialized collections.
It comes from Miass in the Ural Mountains, Russia, a well-known locality for rare niobium and titanium minerals. Aeschynite-(Ce) is a complex oxide mineral containing cerium, niobium, and titanium. It crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, usually forming granular to compact aggregates, and only rarely prismatic crystals. Because of its rare-earth content, it is of great mineralogical and geological interest.
