Aegirine from Brunsjögruvan, Sweden – small cabinet specimen as unique piece

This specimen shows a massive aggregate of Aegirine with clearly recognizable crystal structures. The surface is covered with prismatic crystals in shades of dark brown to black, occurring in dense intergrowths. Several crystal faces are well developed and display a matte to slightly vitreous luster.

The specimen comes from the historic Brunsjögruvan in Sweden, a classic locality for Aegirine. This mineral belongs to the pyroxene group and crystallizes in the monoclinic system. It usually forms slender, long-prismatic crystals of dark green to black color. In massive habits such as here, it often appears coarse-grained to foliated. Due to its typical crystal form and geological significance in nepheline syenites, Aegirine is a valued collector’s mineral, especially from classic localities like Brunsjögruvan.
