This unique flat contains numerous mineral specimens from the Vogelsberg in Hesse, Germany, with Natrolite and Phillipsite. The specimens predominantly consist of dark volcanic rock with white to cream-coloured mineral fillings and crystalline areas within cavities and fractures. The pieces vary in size, shape and formation and include both smaller aggregates and larger, clearly developed mineral areas. The complete flat shown in the pictures is offered as a unique lot.
Geology & Origin
The Vogelsberg in Hesse is a large volcanic region composed predominantly of basaltic rocks. Mineral-rich fluids later deposited various secondary minerals within cavities and fractures in these volcanic rocks. Natrolite and Phillipsite belong to the zeolite group and typically occur as cavity linings or fillings. The specimens in this flat document different forms of this zeolite mineralization from the Vogelsberg.
