Geology & Origin
Mina Ojuela near Mapimí in the state of Durango is one of Mexico’s most famous mineral localities and is especially known for its wide variety of secondary minerals. Mottramite is a secondary lead copper vanadate that forms in the oxidation zone of ore deposits. It develops through the alteration of primary sulphide ores under the influence of oxidising, vanadium-bearing solutions and typically occurs as crusts, botryoidal growths, or finely crystallised aggregates.
