UV-active Metamunirite crystals from the D-Day Mine, Utah, USA – 1 unique lot

This unique lot contains several specimens with Metamunirite from the D-Day Mine in Utah, USA. The pieces show mainly grey to pale grey matrix with whitish to cream-coloured and locally yellowish crystal areas as well as broad to crusty overgrowths. The specimens vary considerably in size and formation and together form a diverse lot. Under UV light, numerous areas display strong green fluorescence. The complete lot shown in the pictures is offered as a unique lot.

Geology & Origin

The D-Day Mine in Utah is a classic locality for secondary uranium minerals. Metamunirite forms there in the oxidation zone of uranium-bearing deposits as an alteration product of primary uranium minerals and commonly occurs as crusty, fine-crystalline or broad coatings. The D-Day Mine is also well known for a variety of fluorescent uranium minerals; comparable Mikon specimens from this locality are also listed in association with Zippeite and Andersonite.
