Marrite, Jordanite and Xanthoconite crystals from the Lengenbach Quarry, Binntal, Valais, Switzerland – minature specimen as unique piece
This miniature specimen from the Lengenbach Quarry features a characteristic association of Marrit, Jordanite and Xanthoconite set within the light dolomitic matrix typical of the locality. The metallic zones contrast clearly with the surrounding rock, giving the piece a defined visual structure emblematic of the rare sulfosalts from this deposit. The specimen originates from the collection under archive number L-20-9319.
Geology & Origin
The Lengenbach Quarry in the Binn Valley is one of the world’s most important localities for complex sulfosalts formed under low-temperature hydrothermal conditions within dolomitic host rock. Its exceptional chemical environment enabled the development of numerous rare arsenic–sulfur mineral phases. Marrit, Jordanite and Xanthokon are representative members of this assemblage, reflecting the unique geochemical signature of this renowned deposit.
