Ludjibaite crystals and Pseudomalachite crystals from Ľubietová, Slovakia. One unique flat.

This collection contains Ludjibaite crystals and Pseudomalachite crystals from the historic mining district of Ľubietová, Slovakia. The specimens display attractive blue green to emerald green mineralization on light quartz matrix and weathered ore material. The strong contrast between the vivid copper minerals and the pale host rock gives the collection excellent visual appeal. Numerous specimens show crystalline coatings, aggregates and distinct crystal-bearing areas that illustrate the diversity of secondary copper mineral formation at this classic locality.

The illustrated flat is exactly the collection offered for sale and contains specimens of various sizes. The combination of Ludjibaite and Pseudomalachite makes this collection especially appealing to collectors of rare secondary minerals and historic European mineral localities.

Geology & Origin

Ľubietová is one of the most famous historic copper mining districts in Slovakia. The ore veins originally contained a variety of copper minerals which were later altered through weathering and oxidation processes, producing numerous secondary species. Pseudomalachite forms as a hydrated copper phosphate within the oxidation zone and is well known for its characteristic blue green color. Ludjibaite is a considerably rarer copper mineral from the locality and commonly occurs together with other secondary copper minerals. The historic deposits of Ľubietová have been appreciated by mineral collectors for centuries.
