This cabinet specimen displays greenish coatings and speckles on a pale, partly rust-colored matrix. The color distribution is irregular and resembles typical weathering patterns of secondary copper minerals. Some areas show a dull green sheen, characteristic of Lindgrenite and indicative of its formation in oxidized copper deposits.
Geology & Origin:
Lindgrenite is a rare copper-molybdenum mineral found in the oxidation zones of copper ore bodies. The Childs-Aldwinkle Mine in Arizona is a classic locality for this species and is well known for its vividly colored secondary minerals. The greenish Lindgrenite coatings typically form in microscopic patterns on weathered matrix, as clearly seen on this specimen.
