This half size flat presents a selection of embedded Libethenite crystals from Portugal, arranged as a unique flat. The crystals are mainly developed within compact, locally brecciated matrix and display the typical dark green to olive green areas characteristic of Libethenite, irregularly distributed throughout the host rock. The individual pieces illustrate the natural variability of this copper phosphate, with noticeable differences in color, texture, and matrix proportion, emphasizing its mineralogical character. The illustrated half size flat shows exactly the offered collection and represents a unique flat.
Geology & Origin
Libethenite is a secondary copper phosphate that forms in the oxidation zone of copper rich deposits. In Portugal, the mineral typically occurs in association with other copper minerals within strongly altered rocks, where phosphate bearing fluids react with pre existing copper phases. Portuguese localities have long been known for mineralogically significant Libethenite material and provide characteristic reference specimens for mineral collections.
