Lengenbachite and Jordanite crystals from the Lengenbach Quarry, Binntal, Valais, Switzerland – micromount as unique piece
This micromount specimen features crystals of Lengenbachite and Jordanite from the Lengenbach Quarry, Binntal, Valais, Switzerland. The dark, metallic-looking crystals occur closely associated and create a striking contrast against the matrix. Despite the small size, crystal shapes are clearly recognizable, making this specimen especially appealing to advanced collectors of rare sulfosalt minerals. The specimen originates from find L-14308 collected in 1979 and represents a well-documented single specimen.
Geology & Origin
Lengenbachite and Jordanite belong to the group of complex lead–arsenic sulfosalts for which the Lengenbach Quarry is internationally renowned. The mineralization formed under very specific geochemical conditions within dolomitic host rock, resulting in an exceptional diversity of rare and partly locality-specific minerals. The Binntal locality is considered one of the most important sites worldwide for systematic and scientific mineral collections.
