This lot contains several mineral specimens of different sizes from the Bird’s Nest Drift in the Otto Mountains, California, USA. The pieces consist predominantly of light whitish to cream-coloured matrix and show locally distinct green to blue-green mineralisation as well as brownish and yellowish areas. The lot includes Tellurium minerals and Copper minerals in various forms and specimen sizes, ranging from small pieces to larger hand specimens.
Geology & Origin
The Bird’s Nest Drift at Otto Mountain in San Bernardino County, California, is an important mineralogical locality for secondary Tellurium minerals. Numerous rare tellurium oxysalts have been documented from this small working, with studies showing an unusually diverse secondary Tellurium mineral assemblage, commonly involving lead and copper as important components. These minerals formed in the oxidation zone of tellurium-bearing ore mineralisation through alteration of primary ores under near-surface conditions.
