Junitoite xls, Sauconite; Christmas Mine, AZ, USA; 1 unique flat
Junitoite Crystals with Sauconite from the Christmas Mine, Arizona, USA – 1 unique flat.
This unique flat features selected specimens with vivid blue to blue-green microcrystals of the rare calcium-zinc silicate junitoite, often accompanied by pale green to yellowish-white sauconite. The fine crystalline zones are scattered across light-colored matrix, occasionally accented by glassy surfaces or faintly zoned mineralization—classic characteristics of this desirable paragenesis from the renowned locality in Gila County.
The Christmas Mine near Hayden in southeastern Arizona is one of the most important sources of rare zinc and copper secondary minerals in the United States. Within the oxidized zones of this historic deposit, minerals such as junitoite, willemite, aurichalcite, and sauconite formed under hydrothermal and supergene conditions. The presence of carbonate-rich host rocks and oxidized sulfides contributed to the development of this distinctive mineral assemblage.
