Red jasper from Java, Indonesia. 1 kg
This 1 kg unit contains raw pieces of red jasper. The material originates from the Indonesian island of Java and displays vivid shades ranging from bright red to deep red, partly with inclusions and dark or greenish structures. The pieces come in different sizes and are well suited for cutting, polishing or decorative purposes. They are also of interest to collectors looking for colorful varieties of quartz.
Geology & Origin
Jasper is a microcrystalline variety of quartz (chalcedony), its typical red color resulting from finely distributed iron oxides and other mineral inclusions. In Java, Indonesia, jasper occurs mainly in volcanic rock sequences formed by hydrothermal processes. These deposits have long supplied decorative rough material that is used worldwide for jewelry, tumbled stones and collectors’ specimens. The strong, homogeneous red color is particularly valued and becomes even more striking when polished.
