Jadeite (Jade) from Jurm, Afghanistan. This hand specimen shows a compact, massive habit with predominantly green to greenish white coloration. The surface appears granular to dense, with irregular textures and natural fracture faces. The material is typical of rough Jadeite and suitable both as a collector’s specimen and for studying the natural structure of this mineral. Unique piece.
Geology & Origin
Jadeite is a sodium aluminium silicate that forms under high pressure metamorphic conditions, commonly in subduction zone environments. The Jurm area in Afghanistan is a well known classic locality for Jadeite in Central Asia and has long been recognized for naturally preserved, massive material.
