Imhofite and Realgar crystals from the Lengenbach Quarry, Binntal, Valais, Switzerland – miniature specimen as unique piece
This small specimen from the Lengenbach Quarry displays a striking association of Imhofite and Realgar. The vivid red Realgar contrasts strongly with the pale matrix, accompanied by darker zones that contain Imhofite. The interplay of colours and the typical distribution of the minerals give this single specimen a distinctly Lengenbach character and make it a representative example of the locality’s mineral diversity.
Geology & Origin
The Lengenbach Quarry in the Binn Valley, Switzerland, is renowned worldwide for its exceptionally complex sulfosalt paragenesis formed within a unique dolomite lens. Hydrothermal activity, metal-rich host rocks and highly specific geochemical conditions enabled the formation of rare mineral species such as Imhofite and Realgar. This specimen reflects the characteristic geological signature of the locality and represents the unique diversity for which Lengenbach is highly regarded.
