Hemihedrite crystals from the Moon Anchor Mine, Arizona – miniature specimen as a unique piece

This miniature specimen displays orange to reddish-brown Hemihedrite crystals on a pale gray to beige matrix. The crystals occur in small cavities and along the irregular surface; some areas catch the light with a fine sparkle, while darker brown patches provide strong contrast. Its elongated, slightly branching form and changing colors make the specimen interesting to view from different angles.

Geology & Origin

The Moon Anchor Mine is located in the Osborn Mining District of Maricopa County, Arizona. Hemihedrite is a rare lead-zinc chromate silicate that can form secondarily in the oxidized zone of a deposit. The mine is documented as a locality for Hemihedrite, and its mineralization includes various lead and silver minerals.
