Hauyne crystals from Niedermendig, Eifel, Germany– miniature specimen as unique piece
This miniature specimen features several intensely blue Hauyne crystals embedded in a dark, porphyritic matrix. The strong contrast between the rock and the vivid crystals gives the piece a particularly aesthetic and distinctive appearance. Some of the crystals are well visible and stand out clearly with their deep color.
Geology & Origin
Niedermendig in the Eifel region is one of the classic localities for Hauyne, which occurs there in Tertiary volcanic basalts. The area is renowned for its volcanic geology, with many minerals found in vesicles within amygdaloidal rocks. Hauyne forms under alkaline conditions in low-silica lavas rich in gas cavities.
