Embedded Hauyne crystals from Niedermendig, Eifel, Germany – miniatrue specimen
This miniature specimen displays deep blue Hauyne inclusions embedded in a fine-grained, light gray to silvery matrix. The vivid blue grains stand out clearly against the lighter background, creating a striking visual contrast. The photo shows a representative sample; several similar specimens are available, each comparable in color and texture.
Geology & Origin
Hauyne is a member of the sodalite group, formed in phonolitic lavas and tuffs of volcanic origin. In the Eifel region, particularly near Niedermendig, it occurs in cavities and compact rock masses of the Tertiary volcanic field. This locality is one of Europe’s classic sources for Hauyne, well known for its vivid blue, glassy crystals often found in association with Nepheline, Sanidine, and Pyroxene.
