Halite crystals (rock salt) with strong shortwave UV fluorescence – Trona, California – 1 box
This lot contains halite crystals (rock salt) from the well-known locality of Trona, California. The crystals sit on heavily weathered matrix and display partial cubic formations. When exposed to shortwave ultraviolet light (SW-UV), they fluoresce in a vivid orange – a highly sought-after property among UV mineral collectors. These specimens are ideal for display and for fluorescent-themed collections.
Geology & Origin
The Trona region at Searles Lake in California is famous for its evaporite deposits, which formed through the evaporation of mineral-rich brines in arid environments. Halite forms here in typical cubic habits directly from saturated salt solutions. The strong SW-UV activity is caused by natural inclusions within the crystal structure. Trona is considered one of the world’s premier localities for fluorescent halite.
