Gedrite; Sweden; 2.78 kg; unique piece
Gedrite from Sweden – 2.78 kg unique piece
This massive Gedrite specimen from Sweden displays a striking and high-contrast appearance, with dark, needle-like to fibrous mineral zones irregularly embedded within a predominantly yellowish-brown to orange rock matrix. The surface is raw and naturally preserved, clearly showing textural differences between the Gedrite-rich areas and lighter quartz- and feldspar-dominated sections. Rust-colored weathering tones enhance the visual impact and give the specimen a strong, almost graphic texture. Weighing 2.78 kg, this is a distinctive and structurally expressive unique piece.
Geology & Origin
Gedrite is an iron- and magnesium-rich amphibole typically found in metamorphic rocks such as gneisses, amphibolites, and contact-metamorphic zones. In Sweden, Gedrite commonly occurs within high-grade metamorphic complexes formed during Precambrian orogenic events. These deposits are of considerable geological importance, as they provide insight into pressure-temperature conditions in deeper crustal environments and play a key role in the study of Scandinavian metamorphic terrains.
