Fossilized (petrified) wood; Indonesia; 19.95 kg; unique piece
Fossilized (petrified) wood from Indonesia – 19.95 kg unique piece
This fossilized wood specimen from Indonesia, weighing 19.95 kg, displays a compact, block-like shape with an irregular, natural surface. The structure of the former wood is clearly visible and defined by longitudinal textures and zoned color patterns. Earthy brown and ochre tones dominate, complemented by yellowish and reddish areas that locally reflect the original grain of the wood. The surface appears raw and authentic, with natural fractures and weathering features that preserve the original character of the material. As a single specimen, it is well suited for collections as well as for decorative display with strong geological presence.
Geology & Origin
Fossilized wood forms through the gradual permeation and preservation of organic plant material by mineral-rich solutions, most commonly silica-based. In Indonesia, volcanically influenced sedimentary environments allowed wood structures to be conserved over long geological periods. During this process, anatomical details of the wood are retained while the organic material becomes fully mineralized. The present specimen illustrates this process clearly and represents a characteristic example of fossil wood from Southeast Asia.
