Fossilized (petrified) wood; Indonesia; 10 kg; unique piece
Fossilized (petrified) wood from Indonesia – 10 kg unique piece
This fossilized (petrified) wood from Indonesia, weighing 10 kg, displays a very compact, blocky form with a noticeably smooth and locally slightly glossy surface. Dominant yellowish to olive-green tones are intersected by strong reddish-brown zones, particularly pronounced along the edges and margins. Several small cavities and irregular depressions are visible, but they do not indicate crystal growth. Crystals are not developed or recognizable; the appearance is entirely defined by the preserved wood structure and massive mineral replacement. The specimen has a very solid presence and is well suited as a display piece or as an illustrative example of fossilization processes.
Geology & Origin
Petrified wood forms through the gradual replacement of organic plant material by mineral substances, most commonly silica, while preserving the original cellular structure of the wood. In Indonesia, this process is often associated with volcanic activity, as silica-rich fluids from volcanic deposits promote fossilization. The intense coloration reflects varying geochemical conditions during mineralization, making each specimen a unique natural object.
