Fossilized (petrified) wood from Garut, Java, Indonesia – 6.55 kg unique piece

This fossilized wood specimen from Garut, Java, Indonesia, appears as a compact, block-like form with striking deep red to burgundy-colored zones. The polished surfaces reveal a high degree of translucency in the darker areas, while lighter cream and yellowish sections provide a compelling contrast. The color distribution is calm and cohesive, with soft transitions between the individual zones. Natural fracture surfaces and slightly irregular textures give the specimen a strong, authentic presence and emphasize the sculptural character of this single piece.

Geology & Origin

Fossilized wood forms when organic plant material is permeated and preserved by mineral-rich solutions over very long geological timescales. During this process, the original wood substance is gradually replaced by quartz and related silicates, while the internal structure of the wood remains intact. The Garut region on Java is well known for producing large-format, vividly colored fossilized wood characterized by stable preservation, clear structures, and expressive natural color zoning.
