This half size flat contains a varied selection of fossil gastropods from Damery in France. The individual specimens display a range of shell forms, including rounded coiled shells as well as elongated and more strongly sculptured forms. The light-colored fossils are individually housed in transparent boxes, allowing the different gastropod forms to be easily compared. The complete half size flat shown is offered as one unique lot.
Geology & Origin
The fossils originate from Damery in the Paris Basin of France and date to the Eocene. At approximately 48 million years old, they originate from a period when marine environments with a diverse mollusk fauna were widespread in this region. Fossil gastropods are characteristic finds from corresponding Eocene deposits and provide an insight into the diversity and environment of that time.
