This exceptional cabinet specimen features numerous Fluellite crystals lining a large cavity on contrasting matrix from Svappavaara in northern Sweden. The pale to colorless crystals form dense crystal coatings and fine crystalline aggregates that give the specimen an attractive and textured appearance. The crystals are clearly developed and cover extensive portions of the open cavity surfaces. Dark associated minerals and iron-rich alteration zones create an appealing color contrast and further enhance the character of this rare collector specimen.
Geology & Origin
Fluellite is a rare fluorine-bearing aluminum phosphate and belongs to the more unusual secondary phosphate minerals. The Svappavaara district is primarily known for its iron ore deposits, where hydrothermal activity and later alteration processes produced a variety of rare mineral species. Fluellite typically forms in small cavities and fractures where mineral-rich solutions provide suitable conditions for crystal growth. Well-documented specimens from Sweden are comparatively uncommon and are especially appreciated by collectors of Scandinavian minerals.
