Eudialyte; Nora Kärr, Sweden; 10.85 kg; unique piece
Eudialyte from Nora Kärr, Sweden – 10.85 kg unique piece
This exceptionally large Eudialyte specimen from Nora Kärr, Sweden, clearly displays the characteristic red to purplish coloration typical of this locality, set within a predominantly dark grey to black rock matrix. The colored Eudialyte zones are irregularly distributed and contrast strongly with lighter quartz- and feldspar-rich areas as well as darker mafic sections. The surface is raw and natural, with clearly visible internal structures and varied textures that emphasize the massive nature of this specimen. Weighing 10.85 kg, this is an impressive and highly significant unique piece, both geologically and for serious collectors.
Geology & Origin
Norra Kärr is one of the world’s most important alkaline intrusions and is especially famous for its rare Eudialyte-bearing paragenesis. The Eudialyte formed within highly sodium- and zirconium-rich alkaline intrusive rocks during complex magmatic differentiation processes. The locality is of outstanding scientific importance, providing key insights into the formation of rare earth and high-field-strength element mineralization, and has long been regarded as a reference locality for Eudialyte.
