The specimens show various shades of blue from light to dark, in some cases with gray and brown areas from the host rock. The crystals occur in fibrous to massive aggregates, giving the pieces their characteristic color pattern.

The specimens come from the Yuma area in the U.S. state of California, known for occurrences of this rare borosilicate mineral.
