Geology & Origin

Desautelsite is a rare magnesium manganese aluminum hydroxide belonging to the layered double hydroxide group. It typically forms in oxidized zones of ultramafic rocks or hydrothermally influenced deposits.

The Clear Creek area in California is well known for its exceptional mineral diversity, especially in association with serpentinites and chromium rich rocks. The localities produce numerous rare and vividly colored mineral species that are highly valued by collectors worldwide.
