Cymrite from Langban, Sweden – micromount as unique piece
This micromount specimen shows Cymrite from Langban, Sweden. The piece consists of a compact, fine grained matrix with grey to dark metallic looking areas interspersed with yellowish to brown zones. The surface appears slightly sparkling due to numerous small reflective faces.
Well formed crystals are not clearly visible in this specimen. The Cymrite occurs mostly massive and embedded, resulting in a dense and structured overall appearance. The complex intergrowths typical for Langban still give the piece a strong mineralogical appeal.
Geology & Origin
Cymrite is a rare barium aluminium silicate that forms under specific metamorphic conditions. It commonly occurs in manganese rich deposits and is often associated with other rare mineral species.
Langban in Sweden is one of the most important localities worldwide for rare minerals. Its unique geochemical environment has produced an exceptional diversity of unusual mineral species, making it highly significant for both collectors and scientific research.
